• Choose 12-15 phrases from an expository (non-fiction) passage written about your topic (image database, newspaper articles, online articles).
• You may not add words to the phrases you select, but you may delete words.
• You may reorganize the order of the phrases, but not the actual order of the words in the phrase.
• Do not try to make your lines rhyme.
• Reread your draft and highlight a key word or phrase that captures the spirit or main idea of your found poem. This will be your unifying theme.
• Start and end your poem with the unifying theme.
• Edit your found poem.
• Your final poem should be 8-12 lines
